About the Event
Escape Velocity 2019 marked the fourth annual conference celebrating science fiction and promoting STEAM education. The event ran from Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26, 2019, bringing together fans, creators, industry professionals, and educators for a weekend of exploration at the intersection of science fiction and technology.
This year’s theme, “Technology as a Mirror of Humanity,” explored how humans control the technology we create and how much it changes who we are—a fitting backdrop for showcasing costume design and fashion innovation.
The Fashion Show
On Saturday, May 25, at 5:00 PM, Sam Salman joined an impressive lineup of creative talents for the Film Festival Awards and Fashion Show ceremony in the Main Events hall. This special presentation celebrated Escape Velocity 2019 with a fashion showcase highlighting science fiction and fandom-inspired costumes and fashion—”where imagination meets reality.”
